The Celtman 2015 competitors before the swim

2015 Celtman winner Dirk Zangen is An Cos guest!

You may not have heard of The Celtman. But for lovers of extreme triathlons it’s the BIG one and 2015 saw applicants from 47 countries. Held in mid-summer, it starts around 04:00 with a 3.8km swim across Loch Shieldaig, followed by a 202km cycle ride up to Ullapool and a gruelling 42km run over two Munros, ending in Torridon village. Certainly not for the faint-hearted!

The winner, Dirk Zangen, who stayed with his family at An Cos for two weeks, accomplished this incredible feat in under 12 hours and set a new record. He said the An Cos steam room helped him win!

David Beckham filming in Glen Shieldaig?

There’s great excitement in the village this week as Guy Ritchie and his crew rolled in to the area to film scenes for his next film.  Due for release next summer, Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, features Jude Law, Charlie Hunnam, Eric Bana and David Beckham!  With hundreds of stars and crew catered for in pop-up location accommodation in nearby Kishorn, complete with catering and bar, the locals are besides themselves with excitement.

Alas, the filming is only scheduled for the next couple of weeks and then its back to normal.  But with with the stunning backdrop of Glen Shieldaig and the Bealach, I have a feeling Guy and his crew will be back.

And talking of the Bealach, the new Bealach Cafe and Gallery which opened at Tornapress in late April has proved to be a great success with a wonderful gallery and well worth a visit: http://www.thebealach.co.uk
