Nineonesix instructors

Our winter walking and climbing weekends at An Cos are an exciting development for nineonesix-guiding. Winter walking weekends are aimed at like-minded folk who already have some summer mountain walking experience and want to extend their walking, or climbing to include the challenge of winter.

Our Instructors and Leaders will talk to you and find out what you want to do and put together a bespoke weekend for you. The winter walking weekends are also suitable for ‘lapsed winter walkers’ who want to dust down the axe and crampons in order to get out again after a break.

The winter climbing weekends are delivered by Instructors who hold the Mountaineering Instructor Certificate, the highest UK based qualification. Your Instructor can help you on the journey from a winter walker to a winter climber. Advice will be given on equipment, tactics and realistic objectives.

Jim Sutherland is a Torridon based MIC and runs nineonesix-guiding, he is also a national trainer for Mountain Rescue Scotland. Winter climbing is one of Jim’s passions, along with a penchant for pushing his mountain bike up then riding it down his local mountains!
